Interview with A Broken Silence, 22.10.09
-
How did your band meet?
B-Don held a MC battle at a club in Sydney, which Torcha hosted. They talked about trying to do something different. B-Don also went to tafe with Cactus and asked him if he wanted to get involved in, at the time, an un-named project. The decision was made to do one track to see if we could come up with something, a sound, that worked. This one track was 'Everyday' which appears on our debut album 'All For What'. After writing a few more songs the band was put together and A Broken Silence was formed
-
Where did the idea for your band's name come from?
It was a name that Torcha had written in the back of one of his old rhyme books years ago... it just seemed like the right time to use it now
-
What music has inspired your band?
There's definately too many to list. Each band member has a very different taste in music but our inspiration ranges from Wyclef to City Sleeps and from Miles Davis to Dillinger Escape Plan.
-
Use three words to sum up your band?
Eclectic, Real and Explosive!!!
-
What venue would you most like to play at?
We'd love to play the Rock Im Park festival in Nuremburg, Germany. Three days of rockin madness
-
If you had a choice, who would be your support band?
Envy Parade... They are an awesome Sydney band with an amazing live show.
-
Three people dead or alive you would invite to your gig, and why?
B-Don would invite he Grandfather... he never got to see us live before he passed away, I know he'd love it. Also, Slim would invite Flea because his a great inspiration to him. Torcha would bring down Maradonna for various reasons... including juggling soccer balls
-
What are you listening to at the moment?
B-Don's listening to Jay-Z 'The Blueprint 3'... Cactus is listening to City Sleeps 'Not An Angel Yet'... Slim is cranking Fergus Brown 'Bergus Frown'
-
Where will your band be in five years from now?
Couldn't ask for more than to be still doing what we love.
-
Any tips you would like to share with your fellow muso's?
Never stop pushing forward but more importantly never stop writing music... that's the key... write as much as you can and focus on developing a sound that's unique to you.
-
Do you live the Rock n Roll lifestyle?
Not compared to the likes of Slash and Nikki Sixx...
