What music has inspired you?
In the beginning, At the drive-in really showed me what music could be. Bjork took me to another world. From then on, anything that pushes the boundaries yet still maintains an incredibly strong melody. Also, good indie films actually inspire me a hell of a lot..
-
Use three words to sum yourself up?
Persistent, Battling, Energy..
-
What music are you listening to at the moment?
Mew, Circa Survive, Dredg and Land of talk top the list at the moment.
-
If you had a choice to play one song, what would it be, and why?
If I could pull it off...Joga by Bjork..Something about that song makes me really happy...
-
Where will you be in five years from now?
I'm hoping I could be a little less broke.. Though the end of the year is starting to look really promising. I'm teaming up with now ex John Butler Trio's drummer, a mad pianist and producer of Crowded House for the next EP which will be recorded in November. So the future is making me feel unbelievably excited!
-
What venue would you most like to play at?
House of Blues in Chicago..
-
If you had a choice, who would be your support band?
Circa Survive or Mew.
-
Have you ever played in a band before, and if so who?
Only way back in the day in school and we had the worst and lamest band name ever. "Blinal Sun"... What the hell is "Blinal"??? I still have no idea.. Anyway, after that I pretty much decided to go solo.
-
Three people you would invite to your gig and why?
I'd rather see those 3 people that perhaps saw me for the first time to come back for the next show.
-
Any tips you would like to share with your fellow musos?
Write what you want you to write and not what other people want you to. And you always do have to go through a lot of tough times to ever arrive at the good parts... Also, have fun and laugh. I hate muso's who take themselves way too seriously and can't even crack a smile.
-
Do you live the Rock n Roll lifestyle?
I'm pretty much the exact opposite. Drinking doesn't really interest me, I love getting up bright and early to work on music and I'm a vegan so I try and stay mega-healthy... A friend once said to me "Dude, you are so not a rock star cos' your definition of being "wired" is having a coffee after 7pm!" I guess music means more to me than wasting time on stuff that may stop me from where I want to go. I'd also rather be the guy that's down to earth and has a chat or laugh with you after the show and not the douche who thinks he's better than everyone else just because he's on stage.
