Interview with Chris Szkup, 14.04.09

  1. What music has inspired you?

SOOOOO much. Can usually find inspiration in any kind of music as long as it's well done and from the heart. In the beginning when I was a tough pimply faced teenager, Megadeth were the be all end all for me musically. Played a lot of their covers back in the day. Later on I got into a lot more stuff, especially classic rock, and this all started thanks to the great band Queen. They're still a favourite. I'm also a big Beatles fan nowadays too. You basically get into something, whatever it may be, and from that, you're lead onto other things, and it's basically a never ending journey.

  2. Use three words to sum yourself up?

    Misunderstood, genuine, Chris.

  3. What music are you listening to at the moment?

At this second literally, I'm playing Glenn Hughes - "F.U.N.K." In general, lotsa Glenn, Cheap Trick, Bumblefoot ( http://www.bumblefoot.com ), Zappa, George Harrison.

  4. If you had a choice to play one song, what would it be, and why?

Would depend on the settings of the situation I suppose? Seeing that the question doesn't ellaborate on what they are, I'll have to say "First Blood", which is a song from my forthcoming album.

  5. Where will you be in five years from now?

Will be doing my thing, still making music, hopefully with a few albums under my belt by then. Travelling internationally, possibly some small gigs in other countries.

  6. What venue would you most like to play at?

As far as Melbourne venues go, I'd have to say The Palais Theatre in St Kilda, and also The Espy. Am basically happy playing anywhere though.

  7. If you had a choice, who would be your support band?

    GONE WILD ( http://www.myspace.com/gonewildnz )

  8. Have you ever played in a band before, and if so who?

A metal band called Jigsore that lasted maybe 10 years or so. Melodic Candy for a couple of years. Have been other things, but these are the main ones.

  9. Three people you would invite to your gig and why?

Aside from mates local and overseas of course...... Ron Thal - To jam a song or two Billy Connolly - To host the evening Willie Gee - Guitar tech

  10. Any tips you would like to share with your fellow musos?

Not sure I'm in a position to be giving others tips - I'm sure they know what they're doing. All I'd really say is to make sure everything you do is from the heart. Can't lose that way!!

  11. Do you live the Rock n Roll lifestyle?

I'm probably the opposite, but that whole thing is a bit of a cliche anyway. I don't smoke, rarely drink, rise and shine early, and don't like playing guitar at all when I've been drinking. How's that for rock n roll?!
