Interview with ZEPTEPI, 31.03.09

  1. How did your band meet?

Everyone who has joined this band has done so via an internet ad.

  2. Where did the idea for your band's name come from?

Zeptepi , or more properly Zep Tepi, is an ancient Egyptian term for 'the beginning of time'. Having said that, I just liked the word.

  3. What music has inspired your band?

So much has inspired me over the years, from all sorts of genres. The main protagonists would be The Only Ones, The Waterboys, Kate Bush, The Dubliners, New Model Army, The Moody Blues (pre '74), David Bowie, Neil Young, The Doors, Pulp, Johnny Thunders, Ewan MacColl, Lords of the New Church, Levellers.... I could go on at some length here, but I'll stop now.

  4. Use three words to sum up your band?

    Nubile, pert, firm.

  5. What venue would you most like to play at?

In Melbourne I'd most like to play at the Forum. But overall I think I'd really like to play at Glastonbury.

  6. If you had a choice, who would be your support band?

Hip di Roc. My best friend in England has reformed his (very) old band, and I wanna see them again!

  7. Three people dead or alive you would invite to your gig, and why?

Luke Kelly (Dubliners) - dead - cos he was a legend, and I need to ask him for singing lessons and beard tips. Peter Perrett (The Only Ones) - almost dead - but I'm sure he could still bring some great pot along for us to smoke. Mike Scott (Waterboys) - alive - so I can bug him endlessy to tour Australia.

  8. What are you listening to at the moment?

A Mike Scott bootleg from '94 that I was sent this morning, from a gig in the rock'n'roll capital of the world that is Wolverhampton.

  9. Where will your band be in five years from now?

Probably still trying to finish the new album the way things are going at the moment. Hopefully we'll at least have finished the tracking by then though.

  10. Any tips you would like to share with your fellow muso's?

A1 bakery on Sydney Road - fantastic haloumi & spinach pies.

  11. Do you live the Rock n Roll lifestyle?

Not any more. Zeptepi is about the most un-rock'n'roll band imaginable. But we're just biding our time until we get to stay in 5-star hotels.
