How did your band meet?
Hey! My name's Andrew and I play guitar. I met Luke, our singer and songwriter, at uni about 5 years ago. I first noticed him when both of us were both putting up 'drummer wanted' ads in the cafe there, and I went up to him and introduced myself. I was always looking for people who liked the same music as me. He met our drummer Pam later that year, and when Pam started uni she met our bass player Stuart in her Brazillian Rythym class. The first time we all played in a room together was in about April 2008.
-
Where did the idea for your band's name come from?
It was completely by chance... well not really. Luke stole it from his younger brother - bastard!
-
What music has inspired your band?
We all listen to loads of stuff. It's hard to narrow it down... but Luke is a massive Lennonhead. In fact he's the biggest one I know of. He's also into Lou Reed and Radiohead. We're all into those bands, and the Beatles too. I'm a big Smiths and Stooges fan. Pam always been into David Bowie and Stuart loves everything. He's going through a hardcore Peter Gabriel phase at the moment.
-
Use three words to sum up your band?
Mad for it.
-
What venue would you most like to play at?
I've always wanted to get on the Glastonbury lineup.
-
If you had a choice, who would be your support band?
That depends on which band Johnny Marr is in at the time!
-
Three people dead or alive you would invite to your gig, and why?
#1 - Alive: Johnny Marr. I'd love to have a beer with him and chat about The Smiths' 'Louder Than Bombs' record. Of all the CDs I've ever bought, that's the one I've played the most. #2 - Dead: Factory Records founder Tony Wilson. He wouldn't need to come to one our gigs to realise the huge influence he's had on popular music, but it'd be nice. #3 - Dead: Sigmund Freud. I'd like him to write a case note about our show, and about the meaning of a rock'n'roll gig, and leave it with me on his way out.
-
What are you listening to at the moment?
I've been listening to '2' by Neu!, 'Low' by David Bowie, 'Prisoner' by The Jezebels, 'Small Change' by Tom Waits and 'Tago Mago' by Can.
-
Where will your band be in five years from now?
Hopefully we'll be working on our third album at Maida Vale Studios in London with producer Nigel Godrich; with a sold out show at Madison Square Garden the following week!
-
Any tips you would like to share with your fellow muso's?
Just keep writing. Play live as much as you can. And when things get tough remember that it's supposed to be fun! It's easier said than done, but pop music isn't something to be taken too seriously.
-
Do you live the Rock n Roll lifestyle?
I haven't done anything fit for the Riot House hotel, but I have been getting up in the afternoon recently. We're about to head to Sydney in support of our new EP 'No Control' so I'll party then for sure! We're playing MUM World Bar on October 7, then Upstairs Beresford on October 8. We're also supporting Phrase at the Prince Bandroom in Melbourne on October 21, and then officially launching our EP at the Northcote Social Club on October 27.
