Interview with Aaron James, 19.04.11

  1. What music has inspired you?

I definitely drew my biggest influences from classic rock bands such as Led Zeppelin & The Beatles. But I also find jazz musicians like Bill Evans & Ray Charles extremely inspiring. there's just something about Jazz that makes you wanna get creative.

  2. Use three words to sum yourself up?

  3. What music are you listening to at the moment?

At the moment I can't get enough of King Crimson's first album. It's just a ridiculous fusion of rock, jazz and 1960's progressive playing.. It's the perfect blend of music for me.

  4. If you had a choice to play one song, what would it be, and why?

I'd have to say The Beatles' Happiness is a warm gun. I'm a huge John Lennon fan and with that track even though it's short, it's like getting three different songs in one.

  5. Where will you be in five years from now?

Hard to say. I hope to be living back in West Hollywood. Session playing and songwriting. Collaborating with great artists and spending all my time either on tour or in the studio. Or maybe I'll go awol somewhere in the Mediterranean. Maybe Rome or Spain somewhere looking for other musicians to learn from. Both sound like a good time.

  6. What venue would you most like to play at?

The Viper Room in Los Angeles as they currently want to put us on fortnightly when I head back there. Venues don't really bother me though as long as the band is great and the crowd is loving the show.

  7. If you had a choice, who would be your support band?

I don't know about a support band but I'd love to be on an Aerosmith Bill. Maybe even a whole tour. I saw them play at MGM Grand in Las Vegas and it was one of the best live performances I had ever seen.

  8. Have you ever played in a band before, and if so who?

I've drummed for Sebasrockets and Chinatown Angels among many other Australian bands, and collaborated with artists from Brett Michael's' band, Evanescence, Thin Lizzy etc.

  9. Three people you would invite to your gig and why?

Desmond Child, Bruce Fairbairn and Jimmy Page. with a songwriter, producer and guitarist of that calibre in one room I'd probably try hopelessly to get them into the studio with me on drums of course.

  10. Any tips you would like to share with your fellow musos?

  11. Do you live the Rock n Roll lifestyle?
