What music has inspired you?
I have to say all types of music have inspired me in so many ways; Ethiopian music obviously has influenced me greatly from a young age. But with that stated Hip Hop Music has influenced me the most, as I always saw it as a tool, for the have nots to express their struggles. Rap music also has influenced me in the way that it showed me I didn’t have to take an orthodox approach to self-expression and tought me that there were no boundaries.
-
Use three words to sum yourself up?
Loyal – Friendly - Emotional (which is not always good, at times I let my emotions get the best of me).
-
What music are you listening to at the moment?
Nas - We’re Not Alone (Feat Mykel) on the “Untitled” album.
-
If you had a choice to play one song, what would it be, and why?
“Smile” by Tupac and Scarface …. Real beautiful, meaningful song.
-
Where will you be in five years from now?
God willing still happily living life to the fullest and not having too much but at the same time not having too little … building stronger bonds with friends.
-
What venue would you most like to play at?
The new Entertainment Centre that’s being built in my city “beautiful Perth”, every time I drive past it, I do a little prayer like “God please let me show case my talent one day up in there on stage”… YOU KNOWW!
-
If you had a choice, who would be your support band?
I would have to say Jay Z’s band that were touring with U2. I got to meet and chill with the crew and even go on stage with them, and on the real, they are some real nice people, who didn’t seem to be phased with the fame … real humble people ... So yeah I would have to say it would be a dream realised to tour around with them.
-
Have you ever played in a band before, and if so who?
No I haven’t, but if I did locally it wouldn’t be anyone but my good friend Mikey's band (Hostile Little Face)… they got a real nice sound I believe the world needs to tune into some mad talent.
-
Three people you would invite to your gig and why?
Since my manager always supports me and goes to most of my gigs, the three people would be: my big brother Teddy (big influence to my life), my good friend Shanu (who's always supported me and wished me nothing but success) and if my manager doesn’t bring his girlfriend, it would be her, Josephine, or my best friend Fasil ... Real people are hard to find and these are the names that first came into my mind.
-
Any tips you would like to share with your fellow musos?
Be real to your music and yourself - don’t chase anything but your dream and don’t be afraid to approach anything you desire and get it, life’s too short to live it on the safe side. Further more, be humble with everything you have and achieved in life, and be grateful.
-
Do you live the Rock n Roll lifestyle?
Hahaha nah, my teenage years I lived more recklessly (except for the drugs), but yeah I try to live a chilled type of life, not too wild like that. In saying that, it doesn’t hurt to let your mind and body relax and appreciate the moment.
