Interview with Roger Stankovic, 04.01.11

  1. What music has inspired you?

I was inspired by dark, melancholic music, ever since I could hear...I loved listening to sad ballads that tell a story of a tragic tale and songs that utilize words with natural elements like Sun, Moon, Wind, Trees, Ocean etc...Some of my most loved songs are neigh impossible to sing..Kate Bush's "Wuthering Heights", Meave's "Ailein Duinn" and Lisa Gerrard's "Sanvean" for example.

  2. Use three words to sum yourself up?

    WTF?

  3. What music are you listening to at the moment?

I only recently discovered a song that was written and performed by Peter Gabrielle many years ago (1986) called "Mercy Street". The song traces the life of a noted biographical poet by the name of Anne Sexton who suffered from bipolar disease and who was sexually abused by both parents. Her therapist suggested she write poetry to placate her depressive moods and she did with much success writing in a biographical style. One of her most noted poems was titled 45 Mercy Street, her supposed childhood place of residence. In the poem she describes how she searches for her childhood home but can't find it and how this could be a metaphor for the loss of innocence...Her parents were both killed in a boating accident and after she divorced her husband she decided to end her own life. A cover of the song performed by Miriam Stockley is the first time I heard the song. Her interpretation I found to be quite profound.

  4. If you had a choice to play one song, what would it be, and why?
