Interview with College Fall, 31.07.10

  1. How did your band meet?

Glenn and I met when he asked me to audition for his band at the time (Showbag) in about 2002. I ended up getting the gig and things grew from there. We really clicked with songwriting so decided to continue to play together continuing with Showbag and then changing our name to College Fall

  2. Where did the idea for your band's name come from?

The first College Fall album is called Eleven Letters and most of the songs were written at a time when Glenn was away in the USA at the end of summer and we were communicating a lot by mail. The reference to College Fall came up in one of those letters (which became the lyrics for our song "Like It Or Not"). So the name perfectly represented that time in our life and the sentiment behind the band.

  3. What music has inspired your band?

Plenty of great stuff... Jimmy Eat World The Hold Steady Archers of Loaf Lou Barlow Belly Dashboard Confessional Death Cab For Cutie Dinosaur Jr Tanya Donelly Guided By Voices The Replacements Fleetwood Mac

  4. Use three words to sum up your band?

    Off kilter pop

  5. What venue would you most like to play at?

Either the Palais or Hifi Bar in Melbourne. We call Melbourne home now so it would be amazing to eventually play in a big room with great production and to get our flat mate (who is a big lighting guy) to put on a killer stadium style light show for us!

  6. If you had a choice, who would be your support band?

    U2

  7. Three people dead or alive you would invite to your gig, and why?

    1. Robert Pollard (from Guided By Voices) because he would probably really get what it is we're on about. 2. Noam Chomsky - because he'd probably appreciate the subtle social comments we throw into our lyrics. 3. Ingrid Newkirk (founder of PETA) - she's nuts but her heart's in the right place! A bit like us really. Plus it would be awesome to shoot the shit with her about what awful animal testing company she's planning to bring down next.

  8. What are you listening to at the moment?

WIlliam Fitzsimmons, Biffy Clyro, Special Patrol, Halfway, Disco Nap, The Hold Steady, Fatblueman.

  9. Where will your band be in five years from now?

On the computer typing up an interview for Ozjam.

  10. Any tips you would like to share with your fellow muso's?

Don't trust your GPS when it tells you to turn west into the desert on an overnight from Sydney to Brisbane!

  11. Do you live the Rock n Roll lifestyle?

    It's the curse of us.
