Interview with Justin Walshe Folk Machine, 29.06.10
-
How did your band meet?
I saw them playing in other bands and seduced them with beer and the promise of more beer.
-
Where did the idea for your band's name come from?
It was the most tolerable of all our options at the time.
-
What music has inspired your band?
Imagined music that never quite existed but is found around the campfire, or in the corner of an old shanty pub in Australia's early days. Dylan, Paul Kelly, Springsteen, Gillian Welch, Tom Waits... great storytellers.
-
Use three words to sum up your band?
stadium folk
-
What venue would you most like to play at?
Meredith Music Festival
-
If you had a choice, who would be your support band?
Bob Dylan. Because he's a legend but he sounds pretty average on stage these days so he'll make us look good.
-
Three people dead or alive you would invite to your gig, and why?
We've never played to anyone dead before so I'd like to give that a try. Maybe they'd laugh at my jokes... Probably not hey.
-
What are you listening to at the moment?
Neil Young. And some spoken word stuff by Steven Smart and Randall Stevens. And Nebraska (again) by the boss.
-
Where will your band be in five years from now?
Probably all over the world, literally. Our members keep moving away. Hopefully some of us will be in the same place at the same time, in the same band on tour in some distant part of the world, looking forward to a great homecoming show.
-
Any tips you would like to share with your fellow muso's?
Go on tour. Keep moving, creatively.
-
Do you live the Rock n Roll lifestyle?
Only when i'm at the supermarket.
